Dahshur Pyramids In Egypt: Overview,Prominent Features,History,Interesting facts
Overview:
The Dahshur Pyramids are two ancient Egyptian pyramids in Dahshur necropolis, on the west bank of the Nile River, and north of Saqqara pyramids. The two pyramids at Dahshur are the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, and are the result of Pharaoh Sneferu who was an ancient Egyptian ruler during the 4th dynasty (2575-2467 BC). The Pharaoh Sneferu was the builder of these two impressive monuments that still exist today. The Bent Pyramid is believed to have been constructed between 2613-2589 BC and the Red Pyramid is thought to have been built between 2589-2566 BC. Both of these pyramids are considered to be the first true pyramids because of their smooth sides. The Bent Pyramid has been suggested to have two separate chambers which could indicate an evolution in pyramid design. The Red Pyramid is thought to be the first smooth-sided pyramid and is based on a more perfect engineering design, which is why it became the model for later pyramids. It is one of the most beautiful monuments in Egypt

History:
The Dahshur Pyramids in Egypt date back to the 10th Dynasty, before the Fourth Dynasty. They are a cluster of three different pyramids that were constructed at the royal necropolis of Dahshur, located just south of the city of Cairo. The first pyramid at Dahshur is the "Bent Pyramid". It was built by Pharaoh Snefru and is said to be a transitional form between the 'step-style' pyramids of the Third Dynasty, and the 'true pyramids' of the Fourth and Fifth Dynasty. It is thought that the Bent Pyramid was the first attempt at a true pyramid, though the sides of the Bent Pyramid are still slightly inclined outward, instead of being perfectly straight. The other two pyramids at Dahshur are the "Red Pyramid", also built by Snefru, and the "Northern Pyramid". The Red Pyramid is an amazing achievement, as it is the first successful 'true pyramid' ever built. Its sides are perfectly straight, and it is much larger and taller than the Bent Pyramid. The Northern Pyramid is the smallest of the three and was constructed later than the other two pyramids. Dahshur is a fascinating example of ancient Egyptian architecture, as it is one of the few sites that contain a pyramid complex built by different Pharaohs. It also serves as a reminder of the tremendous progress in pyramid building that the Egyptians managed to make in a relatively short period of time.
