Church of the Irish Martyrs is a Roman Catholic church located in Dublin, Ireland. It was designed by the architect Joseph Platten and was built in the late 19th century. The church is dedicated to the memory of the Irish martyrs who died during the Irish Rebellion of 1798.
History
Church of the Irish Martyrs was built between 1892 and 1895, and was intended to serve as both a memorial to the martyrs of the 1798 rebellion and an expression of the strength of the Irish Catholic community in Dublin following the Irish Famine. At the time of construction, the building was one of the largest Catholic churches in Dublin and its architect, Joseph Platten, was one of the most famous of the time.
