The Cathedral of the Archangel Michael in Moscow is one of the oldest and most revered religious structures in Russia. The Cathedral is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the guardian angel of Moscow, and is situated in the center of the city, next to the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square. The first stone church of the Archangel Michael was erected in the 13th century. Initially, it was a wooden construction, but in the 17th century, Tsar Alexis I ordered that the wooden structure be replaced with a stone dwelling.
