Bautista Camacho Juana In Mexico: History,Facts, & Services
Bautista Camacho Juana was a Mexican social worker who was committed to helping the less fortunate and to fighting for their rights. She worked in Mexico City, leading the fight to help children and youth from poor backgrounds, and providing them with education and other opportunities. She was particularly active in the community of Tepito, an area of Mexico City which was home to a large population of marginalized, poor and minority citizens. In 1975, Bautista Camacho Juana founded the organization Centro de Protección Transitoria “Bautista Camacho Juana”, which provided youth and children in alternative education, along with basic necessities such as food and housing. She worked with the state of Mexico to provide access to education and services for the children and families she helped. Bautista Camacho Juana was also a tireless advocate for women's rights, working with Mexico's government to advance gender equality and provide access to reproductive health care. She passed away in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of helping the most vulnerable members of her community.
