History:

The Dutch Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (also referred to as the Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk in Zimbabwe) is part of the global Dutch Reformed Church family and serves approximately 60,000 members in Zimbabwe. The origins of the church date back to 1891, when the first Dutch Reformed Mission Church was founded to serve a community of mostly white settlers living in the southeastern part of the country. In 1908, the church established its first congregation in Harare, and by the mid-1940s there were over 50 congregations in the country. As the white population began to dwindle in the country during the 1980s and 1990s, the church's membership also declined. Today, the Dutch Reformed Church in Zimbabwe still serves about 60,000 members, most of them located in the major cities of the country. Despite its largely white membership, the church welcomes anyone of any race to join their congregations and is actively working to promote racial reconciliation and teach Christian values to the broader population.
