The Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Northern Zambia. The Cathedral was built on the site of a former Christian mission which was established in 1881 by the Portuguese missionaries and became a base for establishing Christianity in the area that would later become Zambia. The current Cathedral was built in the late 1950s and is one of the oldest Anglican cathedrals in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is also the seat of the bishop of the Diocese of Northern Zambia, The Rt. Rev.
