Worship Method:

The traditional worship method of Perfume Pagoda in Hanoi, Vietnam is conducted during the country’s lunar new year festival known as Tet. During this time, thousands of Vietnamese people flock to the pagoda to pray and seek blessings. The worshippers will first go through a ritual cleansing in the Huong River that surrounds the pagoda. This cleansing is thought to be a symbolic wiping away of their sins and bad fortune. After the cleansing, worshippers will enter the pagoda and ascend up the mountainside via steps. Once at the destination, worshippers will bow three times in front of each of the main Buddha statues to show their respect. Offerings of incense and fruits are then made to these statues, while praying for fortune and health. After finishing their prayers, worshippers will again descend the mountain and purchase and take home special and traditional souvenirs like lucky coins, Buddha figurines and paper charms.
