Worship Method:
The Dai Bi Pagoda is a Buddhist temple located in Binh Duong Province, Vietnam. The worship method observed at Dai Bi Pagoda is traditional Vietnamese Buddhism. This method differs slightly from Mahayana Buddhism, as followed in many other parts of the world. All forms of worship in Dai Bi Pagoda are led by monks who officiate rituals. The most common form of worship is observing Buddhist prayers. Prayers are chanted by monks and worshippers before many of the temple’s statues. Pilgrims to Dai Bi Pagoda usually light incense sticks and offer food to statues of the gods and Buddha. Offerings are shared among those in attendance and are offered as a way of expressing gratitude. In addition, pilgrims to the temple engage in Buddhist ceremonies such as Bathing the Buddha and the Offering of Offerings. In the Bathing the Buddha ceremony, a monk washes a large Buddha statue with fragrant oils. The Offering of Offerings ceremony involves inviting monks and worshippers to make donations of food, flowers, and incense which are then shared among those in attendance. At Dai Bi Pagoda, visitors are also encouraged to engage in meditation. Meditation generally involves focusing on the breath and clearing out the mind of preconceived notions and emotions. It is believed to be a calming practice, one which leads toward enlightenment. Finally, partaking in Guan Yin Puja is believed to lead one toward wisdom and inner peace. During the puja, worshippers chant the name of Guan Yin, the goddess of mercy. The puja also includes ringing bells, reciting mantras, and burning incense and paper money.
