Stanze di Raffaello (Raphael's Rooms) is a group of four frescoed private apartments of Pope Julius II, located in the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City. They were painted by the Italian Renaissance master Raphael, with assistance from his pupils, between 1508 and 1524. The name of each room originates from the frescoed images in it. This particular fresco is considered one of Raphael's most impressive works. 4) Rich golden palette - The rooms feature a rich golden palette, which is believed to be due to the influence of Leonardo da Vinci. History:

Raphael's Rooms, also known as Stanze di Raffaello, is a suite of four frescoed rooms and stanza della segnatura located in the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City. It was painted by the High Renaissance painter Raphael from 1508–1524, with help from assistance of his students and workshop. The rooms are on the second floor of the palace, directly above the Sistine Chapel. The four rooms are as follows: 1. The Stanza della Segnatura, which contains detailed frescoes on a variety of topics, such as philosophy, law, and theology. It is meant to symbolize the Church's knowledge of all subjects. 2. The Stanza di Eliodoro, which includes narrative frescoes of episodes from the Old Testament. 3. The Stanza della Segnatura, which depicts scenes from the New Testament. 4. The Logge di Raffaello, which is located nearer to the entrance of the Palace and contains landscapes and portraiture. The rooms were used for various papal events, and at one point they were used as a prison. When Pope Pius IV returned from exile in 1565, he commissioned the architect, Muzio Oddi, to open a passageway between the Stanza della Scrittura and the Sistine Chapel to enable the Pope to escape. The Stanze di Raffaello are some of the most admired and renowned frescoes in the world.
