The temple of Surkanda Devi is located at an elevation of over 8000 feet near the fabulous hill station of Dhanaulti in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The temple is believed to have been built by the pandavas during their exile in the mahabharat period. The religious worship ritual starts with taking a dip in the nearby river Kandali and offering prayers to goddess Surkanda Devi. After this, devotees offer flowers and incense to the deity and perform aarti. Prasad (sacred offering) in the temple consists of fried flattened rice, boiled gram, jaggery, and other sweets. Ritualistic mass prayers and singing of devotional songs by professional groups or by devotees in groups are also common sights in the temple.
