Worship Method:
The temple of Purnagiri is situated on a picturesque hill top near Tanakpur in Uttarakhand. Here the temple has a long-standing, ritualistic approach to worship which is followed closely by devotees who visit the temple. The first part of the ritualistic approach to worship includes taking a holy bath in the Purnagiri River, which is located adjacent to the temple. Taking this bath is believed to cleanse the body and spirit of the worshipper. The worshippers then climb up the hill to the temple, as the temple is at the top of the hill. Once they reach the temple, the pilgrims circumambulate the temple nine times, chanting mantras, prayers and bhajans. After the circumambulate the temple nine times chanting the mantras, they then enter the temple and offer their prayers. Once they have made their prayers, the worshippers then perform the puja, or offering of flowers, incense and fruits to the deity. The puja is done seven times as it represents the seven elements that sustain the universe. After the puja is over, a prasadam or holy offering is given to the worshipper as a token of divine blessings. The worshippers then take the prasadam and leave the temple in accordance with priests instruction and blessing.
