St George's Church is a historical Anglican church located in Southwark, London. It was founded in the 12th century and is often referred to as the 'Mother Church' of Southwark. St George's is renowned for its architectural beauty and well preserved stained glass windows. The church is also known for its role in the early American Church, having baptized several persons directly involved in the American Revolutionary War. St George's Church was originally established in the 12th century by Bishop Maurice at the former Augustinian Priory. The current building dates back to the 18th century and has been partially restored. During the Great Fire of London in 1666, the original structure was heavily damaged, but eventually restored in the early 18th century.
