History:

The Cologne Chocolate Museum was opened in 1993, in a historical building which at the start of the 20th century had been a cocoa and chocolate factory. A special exhibition entitled “Chocolate and The Cocoa Route” was created by the Museum’s founder, Jürgen Sethe. It tells the story of the use and production of cocoa and chocolate from its origins in South America to the industrial processing of this tasty product by the world’s largest chocolate manufacturer, Cologne-based Lindt & Sprüngli. The Museum, which also houses the Lindt & Sprüngli archives, has become a popular attraction for both tourists and locals. Visitors can see a collection of vintage chocolate machines and trays, as well as samples of historic cocoa-related products and packaging, old advertising materials and photos. There is also a lecture room where various chocolate-related lectures and seminars are held as well as a shop offering a diverse selection of local and international chocolate products. In 1997, the Cologne Chocolate Museum began the Köln Schokoladenfest (Cologne Chocolate Festival).
