The Şehzade Mosque is an early Ottoman-era mosque constructed in Istanbul, Turkey, between the years 1543–1548. It is located in the Fatih district, at the intersection of Vatan Avenue and Org Sokak. It was designed by the court architect Mimar Sinan for the son of Suleiman the Magnificent, Şehzade Mehmet, born in 1521 and had passed away in 1543. The mosque is built in the classical Ottoman style with four minarets, one on each corner, and the walls inside are covered with ceramic tiles. The walls on the outside also feature marble and other stones. The gates lead onto a single-domed, octagonal prayer hall surrounded by four iwans, two of which are on each side of the main prayer hall. The ceiling inside the iwans is covered with muqarnas stucco, which is also used on the mosque’s ceiling outside. The main entrance to the prayer hall features a carved stone portal with geometric and calligraphic designs.
