is a late 16th century Ottoman mosque in the Eminönü district of Istanbul. It was built between 1598-1603 by the famous Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, for the mother of Sultan Ahmet I. Ahmediye Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, is an iconic religious building located in the old city of Istanbul. Designed by the famous Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, the structure was built in 1609 and is considered to be the most important religious structure of the city. The mosque is comprised of a main prayer hall that is supported by four half-domes, a small fountain found in the center, and a 24-meter-high dome covered with 20,000 Iznik tiles, giving the building its iconic blue hue. Four tall minarets with a slightly different orientation can be found at the corners of the mosque, adding a graceful touch to its overall aesthetic. Inside the building, the vast marble floor spans an area of 44 meters by 72 meters and can accommodate 4,000 worshippers. In addition, a large courtyard can be found in front of the mosque – symmetrically lined with stone arches and marble colonnades – along with a circumambulation area outside the prayer hall. Ahmediye Mosque serves as an example of great cultural significance for Turkey, and draws tourists from all around the globe. Visiting Hours:

Ahmediye Mosque is open for visitors every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for both men and women. During the winter season, from October to March, the hours are extended till 9 p.m. There are no entrance fees but visitors must adhere to the proper dress code.
