The Rustem Pasha Mosque is a 16th-century Ottoman Mosque located in Edirne, Turkey. It was designed by Mimar Sinan, the chief Ottoman architect. Completed in 1563, it is one of the largest and most important mosques of the city and one of the most famous works of Mimar Sinan. The Rustem Pasha Mosque is a large complex with a large central dome and four smaller domes arranged in a square shape around it. There are two half domes on both sides near the entrance and two more at the back of the complex. It has a rectangular porch with four galleries supported by four stone columns. The inner part of the mosque is divided into three parts: the central hall, the side-aisles and the balcony, all covered by sixteen domes. The walls of the mosque are decorated with carved marble panels or Iznik tiles, while its windows are decorated with stained glass. Some of the Iznik tiles of the mosque represent the stories of the prophets while others depict flowers and abstract patterns. The exterior decoration of the mosque uses the typical Ottoman lacerate, while most of the interior decoration uses vegetal or floral motifs. The interior of the mosque is supported by a massive central wooden column which is carved in a floral and geometric pattern. The ceiling is completely covered with Iznik tiles.
