History:

The Türkmenbaşy Ruhy Mosque (Turkmen: Türkmenbaşy Ruhy Mäşiti) is located in Turkmenistan, in the capital city of Ashgabat. It is the largest mosque in the country and was built in 2010. The mosque is also known as the Golden Mosque, for the distinctive golden dome at its center, and the White Mosque, for its white marble and cream-colored granite exterior. The mosque was designed by Mukhammad Meredov with an aim to create an impressive and symbolic representation of Turkmenistan. The mosque was built by the Turkish construction firm ENKA in a total construction period of just one year. The mosque has a dome of approximately 40 meters in height, four minarets of 65 meters in height, an expansive prayer hall, and a conference hall. The interior of the mosque is decorated with paintings of Turkmen poets, historical figures and religious leaders, as well as artwork depicting traditional Turkmen needlework and woodwork. The mosque contains one of the largest chandeliers ever created, weighing close to 6 tons and featuring 3,400 Swarovski crystals and LED lights. The mosque also serves as a cultural center, hosting numerous cultural, educational and religious activities every week.
