Wat Phra That Cho Hae is a Buddhist temple located in Nan, Thailand. It was founded in the 13th century, when King Phra Ruang of Ayutthaya bestowed upon the area its name. For many centuries the temple complex served as a major spiritual center for the people of Nan. The name Wat Phra That Cho Hae translates to “Temple of the Cho Hae Relic” in English. This name is derived from a situation in which King Phra Ruang sought to reclaim the Cho Hae relic, which had been lost. In 1834, during the reign of King Rama III, he ordered the construction of a Chedi at Wat Phra That Cho Hae to enshrined the relic. The temple is believed to have been built prior to the 17th century, as it was mentioned in several chronicles of the era. However, it was not until the 18th century that it was given its official name and the Chedi was inaugurated. In the early 19th century, the temple was renovated and expanded under the rule of King Rama III.
