History:
Wat Huay Mongkol is an important temple located in Hua Hin, Thailand on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand. The temple was established by Luang Pu Thuad, a highly respected monk, during the reign of King Rama III (1824-1851). The site, which features a giant image of the Buddha and a temple hall, was once a forested hill top area. The temple was initially called Wat Phra Luang Taepa Lat Bua, which translates to “Temple of the Buddha who descended from the sky holding a lotus.” Over time, it became more commonly known as Wat Huay Mongkol as this name is linked to the well-known monk who played a large role in the establishment of the temple. Wat Huay Mongkol is a popular pilgrimage destination, especially during Buddhist Lent, where crowds flock from all over Thailand. During a recent renovation, the temple was expanded and given a more elaborate design. There are a number of chedis, or stupas, at the temple site, each of them containing relics from Luang Pu Thuad. The main chedi at Wat Huay Mongkol is called Phra Chedi Huay Mongkol, which was constructed in 1824 when the temple was first established. Today, Wat Huay Mongkol is one of Hua Hin’s most beloved and revered temples. It is a popular tourist destination, offering visitors an opportunity to admire the historic structures, receive blessings from monks, and partake in religious ceremonies.
