History:

Wat Chaiwatthanaram is a Buddhist temple located in Nakhon Pathom, in the Central Thailand province of Nakhon Pathom Province. It was built during the Ayutthaya period in 1630 by King Prasat Thong as a memorial to his mother. Its architecture is inspired by a combination of Indian, Khmer and Thai styles, and consists of a main Prang (Khmer-style central tower) surrounded by eight smaller prangs, four on each side. Within the temple grounds there are also several subsidiary prangs, viharns (assembly halls) and other structures. The largest and tallest of the prangs is situated in the center of the complex. Its base is approximately 45 meters in diameters and it reaches a height of 25 meters. It is decorated with smaller stupas and miniature architecture, including a miniature wall with four gates that encircles the entire complex. Inside the prang are statues of various Buddhist figures, as well as painting depicting Buddhist stories. To the south of the central prang is a large stupa, known as the Chedi Chai Rajakaruna. Built in the Thai style, it is the largest and most impressive stupa in the complex. In addition, there are numerous subsidiary prangs and smaller structures scattered around the complex, including several viharns in the Thai style.
