The Chilkur Balaji Temple practices Vaishnavite worship, with rituals focusing on Vishnu and his avatars. Rituals start with offering prayers to the Lord, followed by ring of Vedic Mantras accompanied by the melodious sound of temple bells. The temple also practices the ancient Vaishnava ‘Ekaadasi’ tradition of fasting once every month. After Ekaadasiga puja, the devotees perform ‘Shodashopachara’, which requires offering sixteen flowers and sixteen betels’. Next, the priests perform a ‘Sankalpa’ ceremony in which the devotees hold their hands in a palm leaf and chant ‘Om Namo Naraynaya’ in unison. After this, the devotees perform the ‘Aarathi’ ceremony, which involves offering a lit camphor to the presiding deity.
