The Palani Murugan Temple in Palani, Tamil Nadu, is one of the six major abodes dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple follows ancient temple rituals for worship which involve circumambulation (pradakshina) of the temple, offering of prayers in front of the Lord, lighting of lamps and performing abishekams (ritual pouring of offerings) to the deity. Pilgrims usually carry the sacred Palani Mundirum (the traditional offering to the Lord) as they circle the temple. As part of the prayers, devotees chant hymns from the Thirupugazh and sing devotional songs dedicated to the Lord.
