Worship Method:

Kalyana Venkattaramasami Temple is one of the oldest temples in Chennai and is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara. The temple follows the Pancharama Kshetra, and Agama Shastra traditions of worship and rituals. During worship, a priest chants mantras from the Vedas and performs rituals such as poojas and homas. During the four-day festival of Garuda Seva, devotees offer special pujas in the inner sanctum. They also chant mantras, offer flowers and light oil lamps (Deeparadhana). The daily rituals begin with Dhyanam, in which the devotees meditate and focus on Lord Venkateswara, followed by Sankalpam, in which Vedic mantras are chanted, and Abhishekam, wherein holy water is poured over a statue of the Lord. The priests then offer Kavadi (canopy) to the main deity. Next, the devotees circumambulate the temple (Pradakshinam), then offer flowers and incense sticks (Deeparadhana). They make offerings of fruits, flowers, and coconuts and offer special prayers. Finally, the priests perform aarti and play traditional devotional music.
