This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Koothanur Village, 15 km southeast of Thiruthuraipoondi in Thiruvarur District. The temple is believed to have been built between 7th Century to 12th Century AD. Worship Method:
The Agneeswarar Temple is one of the most renowned temples in Tamil Nadu and has been in existence since ancient times. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort, Parvati. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, while the main form of worship is Shiva pujas and abhishekams. The temple follows a strict pooja schedule with all poojas being performed five times a day. The daily worship begins with offering of milk, ghee, flowers, fruits, sandalwood and other auspicious materials to the deities. This is followed by a special pooja for Lord Shiva and Parvati. The devotees then offer incense and aarti to the Lord. After that, the devotees sing devotional songs and perform bhajans in honour of the deities. Following this, the traditional puja is performed that includes chanting of mantras, offering of food, flowers and lamps to the deities. The day ends with annadanam (feeding of the poor). Apart from their daily pooja schedule, the temple also hosts special festivals like Shivaratri, Skanda Shashti and Rama Navami.
