Reformed Churches of the Canton Bern-Jura-Solothurn In Switzerland: History,Facts, & Services

The Reformed Churches of the Canton Bern-Jura-Solothurn in Switzerland is a union of Reformed churches that was created in 1987, through an agreement signed between the cantons of Bern, Jura, and Solothurn. Prior to this agreement, the churches in each canton had operated as separate entities. The Reformed Churches of the Canton Bern-Jura-Solothurn offer many services, including liturgies, pastoral care, spiritual counseling and guidance, education and training, and support for the sick and those affected by poverty. The union also works to strengthen the ties between the churches within the canton and to promote ecumenical dialogue and cooperation with other faith communities. The churches in the union are united by their adherence to the Evangelical Reformed belief system, which has its roots in the 16th century Protestant Reformation of Europe. The church union holds services in four languages: German, French, Italian, and English. The churches in the union follow the Reformed faith, yet each congregation is still allowed to hold its own identity, be it through the tradition of their language or their practice of the faith. This encourages a high level of autonomy within each church, yet still allows for unity among the union's churches.
