Pfimi Frutigen is a municipality in the district of Frutigen-Niedersimmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. Frutigen is first mentioned in 1238 as Frutungen. Pfimisatellite village first appears in 1310 as Phime.
History - Pfimi Frutigen was once part of the large parish of Frutigen. After the Protestant Reformation of 1528, the inhabitants of this area of the parish gradually converted to the new faith, whereas the inhabitants of the parish south of the Kander river converted to the Catholic faith. As a result, in 1535 and in 1574, Pfimi became an independent parish, with its own church and pastor.
Facts - Pfimi is known for its Tschäggätta masks and was home to famous mask carver Karl Geiser and playwright Melchior Bachmann, who wrote in the local dialect Fruti-Tostètsch. A prominent feature of the region is the nearby Niesen mountain, which is the most prominent mountain in the Bernese Oberland and is accessible to visitors by several railway routes, which climb the vertiginous slopes.
