History:

The first records of Église Santa Maria date from 1192 when a priest from Bard was commissioned to build the chapel. However, historians believe the church is actually older based on the nature of its architecture and stonework. Externally, it is characterized by its bell tower, three apses, round arches, small spire, and large Romanesque entrance with a semicircular arch. The interior includes four arches and a roman cruciform with a high central element dating back to 1576. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Switzerland.
