History:

is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Ndjuka Maroon culture, traditions, and values. It was established in 1994 after a peace accord between the Maroons of the Upper Suriname River region and the Government of Suriname. Since then, IMANI has been working to instill a sense of belonging and purpose in the Maroon community as well as raise awareness among the wider public. As part of their activities, IMANI runs a cultural centre in Moengo, Suriname, organizes traditional Maroon festivals, offers educational workshops, and educates children and youth in Maroon culture.
