Worship Method:

The Vaikalady Vairavar Temple in Karrukkaithivu, Poonakari is one of the most popular and sacred Hindu temples in Sri Lanka. The temple follows the traditional style of Hindu worship and the worship methods are based on the Agama scriptures. The morning worship usually consists of offerings of flowers, fruits, and coconut to Lord Vairavar (Vishnu) and a special offering of 108 lit lamps. Devotees then recite various mantras and offer various prayers. This is followed by abhishekam (bathing) of Lord Vairavar and then the rest of the gods are generally bathed in line. The afternoon worship includes the daily long Puja which starts with offering 108 lotus flowers around Lord Varaivar, followed by other special prayers. After the long Puja, devotees perform Arati (circumambulation of Lord Varai with lit lamp) and Kavadi (religious procession). The evening worship involves offering of food, lighting of lamps and then offering of food to Lord Vairavar. After this, the priests perform Aarati (light worship) and Mangal Daya (conclusion of prayers). Finally, after the conclusion of the Puja, devotees offer their praises and salutations to Lord Vairavar before leaving the temple.
