Worship Method:
At the Alady Vinayakar Alayam, devotees perform abishekam (abhiseka) and puja for Vinayaka, the Hindu deity. They offer coconuts, flowers, turmeric, rice and vermilion (kunkum) as offerings, and they recite hymns and mantras while performing the puja. After the puja is completed, the devotees take prasad (blessed food or offerings). Offerings such as kavadi, kalasam, mala (garlands) and other items may also be presented to the deity. The devotees keep their eyes closed and focus their minds and hearts on their Lord as they offer devotional songs and prayers. They may then take part in aarti (lighting of lamps), circumambulation and distribution of prasad. Every Thursday and Sunday, a pooja is conducted at the Alayam for the benefit of devotees.
