Worship Method:

The Sri Siva Sithamparaeswarar Temple in Sithankerny, Valikamam West is home to Lord Shiva, the Supreme God of Hinduism. Worship at the temple takes the form of daily morning and evening poojas, which involve reciting sacred mantras, offering flowers and other presents to the Lord, and performing simple offerings of food and incense before the deity. In addition, special festivals are celebrated throughout the year, such as the Maha Shivaratri and Skanda Shasti, which attract large numbers of devotees from around the region. On these occasions, special rituals have to be performed. During the annual Chittal festival, the lingas are placed inside a silver cup and adorned with a white cloth, while Ekantha or Kaaviarchanam is conducted with the accompaniment of natchithra music. Devotees also recite the Lord's 1000 Names (Sri Vishnusahasranamam) and perform arati/abhishekam to the presiding deity. During Maha Shivaratri, special poojas are conducted all through the night, concluding in vedi kattu, a symbolic representation of the wedding of Sage Dakshan and his bride, Goddess Sivakami.
