is said to be more than a 1000 years old. It is known to be the oldest Vairavar Temple in Sri Lanka. The temple is said to have been established by the King Rajadhi Raja Chola. According to the stories, the temple was built to worship Vairavar, a form of Lord Vishnu. The main deity in the temple is Lord Narasimha Swami. Worship Method:
The worship method at Narasingha Vairavar temple includes chanting of the Narasinga Manthra, performing abishekam (pour sacred liquids on the deity), offering maala or flower garlands, lighting a lamp (vilakku deepam) and offering pooja items (prasaadam). The priests recite the Narasingha Manthra with devotees to invoke the divine power of the deity. Devotees also offer prayers to Narasingha Vairavar for his grace and blessings. During festivals, devotees offer special pooja items such as fruit, incense, flowers, and lamps to the temple. Special poojas are also conducted for the deity. On special occasions, devotees offer the alankara (decoration) and recite bhajans (devotional songs) in honor of Narasingha. On the fateful full moon day, devotees offer prasadam to the deity and also perform a special ritual called 'Kala Abhisegam' (ablution with sacred water). This is an important ritual in which devotees bathe the deity with water and ghee mixed with herbal leaves and fragrant oils.
