St. Sebastian's Church, Katuwapitiya in Sri Lanka is a Roman Catholic church located in Negombo, Sri Lanka. It was built in 1895 and is one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Negombo. It is considered a symbol of Sri Lankan-Portuguese history and heritage. On Easter Sunday in 2019, St. Sebastian's Church was one of three churches that were targeted by terrorist suicide bombers. The attack resulted in the death of more than 250 people and injured around 500 people. The church is dedicated to St. Sebastian, the Christian martyr who died in Rome during the early 3rd century AD. The church stands out with its unique architecture and is considered one of the finest examples of a late 19th-century Portuguese church. It features a large bell tower, intricately carved wooden alter and multiple domes. The church provides services such as Mass and confession to its parishioners.
