History:

Vairavar Koyil (Vairavar Temple) is located in Madduvil South, Thenmarachchi in the town of Chunnakam in Jaffna District, Sri Lanka. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan (Vairavar), the deity associated with Tamil culture in Sri Lanka. The temple is one of the famous 'Thruppigarayar Temples' which were built by Thiruvenkadudaiyar, one of the Chola kings who ruled Sri Lanka. The temple is believed to have been built in 10th century CE and it is believed that it was constructed at the request of one of his ministers, Kunarappanar. The temple is said to have been built on the site of an older temple which was destroyed by a cyclone during the Chola period.
