The Sri Iyswariya Luxmi Temple in Colombo, Sri Lanka, offers a variety of ways for devotees to worship. The temple offers daily ensemble poojas, which involve chanting of mantras, singing of bhajans, and offerings made to the presiding deities—Ganesha and Lord Luxmi. Devotees also make offerings of flowers, fruits, incense, and lamps, and perform abhisheka, or anointing of the deities with sacred water. On special occasions, kumkuma pooja­—smearing the deities with turmeric and kumkuma powder—is performed. The temple also hosts grand fire rituals known as homa or havan twice a year on the auspicious Hindu festival days. On festive occasions, a 27-day continuous recitation of the Tamil poem Tiruppavai, composed by the Vaishnava saint Andal, is held. During such occasions, the temple is adorned with lights and decorations, and devotees also perform poojas in their own homes.
