History:
St.Joseph-Vaz Church Maha Galgamuwa was constructed in 1867 by priests from the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor.The construction was supervised by Fr. Fransisco Xavier, the founder of the Church. The Church was consecrated by Archbishop Justin Stransclair on the Feast of Saint Joseph The Worker in 1869. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.
