History:
St. Sebastian's Cathedral was originally a small chapel built in 1676 by Dutch and Portuguese settlers in the area. It was later remodeled and enlarged by Fr. Fulgentius Pick who in 1790 named it as St. Sebastian's Cathedral. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.

• St. Sebastian's Cathedral is the oldest church in Negombo and is the largest church in the country. • It is said that a miraculous statue of St. Sebastian that was placed in the cathedralby Fr. Pick was responsible for a miraculous end to a cholera epidemic in the area in 1808.

The Cathedral is a popular tourist destination which offers many services including Mass services. Notable services include Christmas and Easter which attract hundreds of devotees who come to worship and celebrate. Visitors can also view the graves of Portuguese priests of the chapel and an old chapel bell from the 17th century.This beautiful church in Srilanka has made a lot of significance in the past.
