Worship Method:

The worship method in the Sri Muthumari Amman Temple follows the ancient customs and traditions of Hinduism. The daily worship in the temple is conducted by resident Brahmins. Devotees may participate in the morning and evening puja ceremonies, as well as the daily aradhanai. During special festivals, the temple may also host a special ahuthi pooja. On major days of religious observance, devotees join the brahmins in the ceremonial rituals. The archakars (priests) conduct the puja according to the holy scripture of the temple, the Pancharathra Agama. It contains detailed guidelines on how to conduct the puja as per the rituals of the holy temple. Before performing the puja, devotees typically begin the morning by taking a bath in the holy water tanks located around the temple precincts. Following this, they don prayer clothes and offer flowers, fruits, rice grains, and other offerings in the front of the deity. During the aarti ceremony, the devotees light lamps and chant mantras to goddess Muthumari. As part of the daily rituals, devotees also sing the prayer of Tiruppavai, recite the 1000 names of Muthumari, and perform Annadhanam (offering of food to the needy). By Car: Take the Galle-Colombo highway (A2) and turn on to the Galle-Matara (A3 road) at Kolonnawa. Take the Ratgama exit and drive along the Matara-Tangalle road through Polhena, Genaralawila, Punsikuda and Nalanduruwa to reach Nakiyadeniya junction.
