History:

is a Hindu temple located at Point Pedro in Mannar District, in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. It is the only temple dedicated to the Lord Sankili Vairavar , the God of Strength and Power. The temple was built at the base of the majestic Andar mountain chain, and is the only temple in the region dedicated to Sankili Vairavar. Worship Method:

The worship method of the Sankili Vairavar temple follows traditional Hindu rituals and customs. The distinguishing feature of the temple is that the Lord Vairavar, the deity of the temple, can be worshipped in either male or female form. Before worship, devotees perform a 'Ganapadhi Puja' where they offer 'Vilvam' leaves (Malabar neem leaves) to the deity. During puja, devotees offer coconuts and fruits as naivedhya (offering of food). They also chant hymns from Hindu scriptures such as Ganapati Atharva Shirsha, Lakshmi Ashtakam and Navagraha Stuthi. The traditional form of worship at the temple involves offering of lamps (deepa aradhana) which involves circling the Lord Vairavar seven times with the three lit camphor lamps held in the hands and singing mantras of the deity. After the lamps are offered, the priests of the temple perform Arathi (waving of light with camphor) around the deity. As the last step of worship, devotees perform Purnahuti (offering of prayers) to the deity. It is said that Sankili Vairavar is a very powerful deity and usually gives what the devotees wish for after the prayers are offered.
