History:
The church was consecrated on 28 September 1956 by the then Cardinal of Colombo, His Eminence, Maxwell C.G. Silva and dedicated to the Risen Saviour. It has been serving as a place of worship for local Catholics and a place of pilgrimage for Catholics from all around the world. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.

• The church is built in a Neo-Romanesque style, with a limestone façade and stained glass windows. • It has a large, copper tinted dome and twin spires on the choir. • It is also the home of the iconic statue of the Risen Christ, which stands atop a 15 m tall pedestal.

Risen Christ Church offers various services, such as Mass, weddings, funerals, baptism, confirmation, reconciliation, and benediction. The church is also active in helping the poor and neglected children in Kandy.
