Periya Thambiran Temple is one of the oldest temples in the country and has been in existence for more than a thousand years. The worship method at this temple follows the traditional Tamil Vaishnavite system. The main deity in the temple is known as Periya Thambiran or Big Lord. Worshippers usually start their visit to the temple by offering prayers to Lord Ganesha, as he is considered to be the remover of obstacles. Then they offer prayers to the main deity of the temple, Periya Thambiran. Worshippers also perform daily poojas such as Navagraha Pooja and Raasa Pooja, which involve chanting mantras and offering flowers to the deity.
