History:

Voergaard Castle is a castle located in Dronninglund, Denmark. It was built in the early 16th century by the knight Axel Urup, who was among the first to settle in the area. He was granted the land by the Danish king, Christian III, and the castle became his home. The castle became an important part of the history of Dronninglund and surrounding areas. From the 16th century onward, it has been inhabited by many influential families, including the Urup family and the aristocratic Eylers family. In 1630, the castle came into the hands of the Eylers family, who owned it until 1667. In 1667, Lord Krabbe of the nearby town of Aalborg came into possession of the castle. For the next 150 years, the Krabbe family provided various public services and cultural events for the area around Voergaard. The people of Dronninglund felt a deep attachment and loyalty to the Krabbe family and castle, and the castle became a cultural center of sorts for the people of the area. In 1777, the castle passed into the possession of the Hartvigsen family and it underwent renovations and refurbishments to restore it to its former glory. In 1835, the castle was bought by the Galster family, who converted parts of it into a private residence. They also opened a brewery on the grounds and made various improvements to the building. Today, Voergaard Castle is a popular tourist destination in Dronninglund.
