The founding of Truro Cathedral dates back to 1877 when the passing of an act of parliament allowed CharlesEdward Elrington, the Bishop of the Diocese of Truro in 1877, to build a cathedral for the newly formed diocese. Construction began in 1880, with the foundation stone being laid by the Prince of Wales on 13 April of that year. The building was designed by John Loughborough Pearson and was consecrated by Bishop Elrington in September 1910. Truro Cathedral This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.
