: The Trujillo Peru Temple is the 82nd operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). It is located in the city of Trujillo, Peru, and is the only temple in Peru operating outside of the Lima metropolitan area. The temple was announced by the LDS Church on April 1, 2000, ground was broken on September 15, 2001, and the temple was dedicated by LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley on July 22, 2002. The temple has a total floor area of 13,800 square feet (1,280 m2), two ordinance rooms, and two sealing rooms. It serves the 93,000-plus Latter-day Saints living in Peru's northwest and northern coasts. The temple is a smaller structure, like many other LDS temples in Latin America. Its spire stands 91 feet (27 m) tall and displays the single-arched spire of the original design. Due to recent earthquakes throughout South America, the LDS Church released a video on April 19, 2007, detailing new seismic standards and retrofitting of several LDS temples.
