Worship Method:
The Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon at Teotihuacan, Mexico, are two of the most iconic and impressive structures at the archaeological site. The Pyramids are considered to be the most important religious structures of their time and were often used for ceremonies and offerings to the gods. The Pyramid of the Sun was likely a place of worship dedicated to the sun god Huitzilopochtli and priests and rulers would climb to the top of the pyramid to make offerings and pray for blessings from the sun god. The Pyramid of the Moon, similarly, is believed to have been dedicated to the moon goddess Coyolxauhqui and to have been used for ceremonies related to fertility, death, and renewal. The worship practices that took place at each pyramid are still largely unknown to scholars, however, archaeologists theorize that worship activities included rituals that involved offerings of foliage, food, blood, and animal sacrifices. Various ceremonies and rituals were also likely performed, such as offerings to the gods, dances, feasts, and possibly even human sacrifices. Aside from performing ceremonies, scholars are also trying to understand the symbolism of the pyramids. The placement and construction of the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon—sitting at an angle to each other—is believed to represent the duality of the sun and the moon. The pyramids are further aligned with the solstice which would celebrate and honor their gods. This most visited temple in Mexico
