St James' Church, Ansty is an historic Anglican parish church in the Diocese of Coventry, located in the Warwickshire village of Ansty, near the town of Leamington Spa. It is a Grade II* listed building, having been built in the late 13th or early 14th century. The church has undergone a series of renovations and modifications over the centuries, resulting in a mix of architectural styles in the building, including Decorated Period and Perpendicular styles. It is one of the best churches in England which you must visit.

History:

The parish of Ansty was formally established in 1171 and St James' Church is generally thought to have been built shortly afterwards, although the exact date is uncertain. The church was dedicated to St James and served as the parish church for the village until it was destroyed by fire in 1583. The church was immediately rebuilt and was the thriving centre of village life until the 18th century, when the population began to decline due to poor agricultural conditions. Due to this, the church was closed in 1846 and the possessions sold off. The church was restored and reopened in 1891, following a public subscription. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

The church is an example of Late Gothic style, comprising a nave and chancel, a south porch, and a bell tower over the south entrance. The church is a remnant of Early English and decorated period style, which can be seen in the pointed arches of the transepts, the roll mouldings and the stained glass windows.
