Founded in 1927, Second Baptist Church started as a Congregationalist church with a mission to be an interracial church before such unions were accepted by others. The church quickly became a hub for cultural and spiritual growth for the city of Houston. By the late 1960s, the congregation had grown so large that Second Baptist Church began to search for new locations to accommodate it growing membership. In 1974, Woodway Campus was established as the fourth campus for the church. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in USA.
