Santa Maria de la Mar de Salou is a Catholic Church located in the Spanish municipality of Salou, in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia. It is a Gothic style building that dates back to the 15th century. The walls of the church have undergone several restorations throughout the years, although the original design remains intact. The church is dedicated to Saint Mary of the Sea, a patron saint of sailors and fishermen. Santa Maria de la Mar de Salou History The construction of Santa Maria de la Mar de Salou began in the year 1432 and its completion was celebrated with the ringing of the bells on November 15th, 1453. It was built by the villagers of Salou, who wanted a place to celebrate their faith and pay homage to their patron Saint Mary of the Sea. The church was designed by architect Francisco de Soler, who used a Gothic architectural style with influences from the classical Renaissance period.
