History:

St. Vladimir introduced Orthodoxy in 988, when he was baptized in the Dnieper River. Soon after, an episcopate was established and the Kievan See became the center of the Russian Orthodox Church. Later, during the Mongol-Tatar Yoke, the seat of the church moved to Moscow. This was when the Russian Orthodox Church was declared the official religion of the Russian Empire. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Japan.
