Jingye Temple is a large Buddhist temple in Luoyang, Henan Province, China. Worship at Jingye Temple follows the rituals and practices of Chinese Buddhism, which is a form of Mahayana Buddhism, emphasizing both devotional and meditative practices as well as physical and textual study. The worship of the temple involves prostrating in front of the main Buddha statue, chanting various mantras and sutras, and burning incense. Visiting the temple could involve circumambulating the Buddha Hall three times in clockwise direction, ringing the temple bells, and kowtowing five to eight times. Prayers can be made to the statues of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, sometimes accompanied by the lighting of joss sticks in the bowls next to the statues.
